On Tuesday, February 4th, 2020 the Manitou Springs City Council approved a 0.3% sales tax that will support arts and culture in Manitou Springs.  This tax is based on the MACH the ballot measure that passed in December 2019 and will go into effect on July 1, 2020. MACH Proposal Talking Points

What does MACH stand for?
Manitou Springs Arts, Culture & Heritage

Where will the money come from?
In December 2018, a 0.3% sales tax sunsetted. If reinstated, this sales tax can be used to
create sustainability and growth in Manitou’s arts, cultural and heritage assets and nonprofits.

What does that mean in everyday terms?
In simplified terms, 30 cents for every $100 spent in Manitou will go to the fund. Or 1 cent
out of every latte bought in Manitou. Or 3 cents out of every $10 spent in Manitou

What is the MACH committee's proposal to distribute those funds?
We propose that the first third will go to the Carnegie Library to be used for restoration and expansion. The
second third will benefit the Manitou Art Center, Miramont Castle and The Manitou Springs Heritage Center. The final third will go into a competitive grant fund to which any Manitou Arts/Culture/Heritage nonprofit can apply.

Why is this important?
When passed, this initiative will represent a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to create
sustainability for present and future generations, fund programming, bolster Heritage Tourism and strengthen the Arts, Cultural and Heritage organizations that make Manitou Springs a unique place to live and visit.

How will this benefit my nonprofit?

Grant funding can be used for programming, capacity building, development and
projects.

What are the benefits for Manitoids?
Our Manitou Springs residents are proud to call themselves Manitoids because of our
creativity and heritage. Art and culture create the “sense of place” that we love.

What can my nonprofit do to help the MACH Initiative pass? A: Invite us to your board meetings. Talk about MACH at your board meetings. Help us get signatures! Share our posts. Use the toolkit that you will receive when we launch the Public Information campaign mid-August.
